INTERESTED IN BEING A HEAD FOOTBALL COACH FOR LPW?


Do you love football? Have you enjoyed playing the sport and are looking for a way to continue to work with the game? Then coaching might be an option to consider. Coaching youth football is exciting and fulfilling and gives you an opportunity to pass your skills on to a new young generation of players. If you have experience playing and/or coaching football and have what it takes to be a great coach. Read on to learn how to become a football coach at Lakewood Pop Warner.

 

Our coaches are the most important part of our program because they decide what kind of experience our athletes will have with football and sports. As an organization we are committed to the principles of positive coaching. We expect our coaches to be "Double-Goal Coaches." We expect them to want to win, but most importantly help players learn life lessons and positive character traits from sports.

 

Coaches need to be able to work with kids ages 5 - 15 and teach them fundamentals of football.

Head coach must be reliable and be able to volunteer 4-5 days a week from August to October, including Saturday (Game Days).

Communication skills are vital and must be enthusiastic, patient, and persistent.

Must have knowledge of football and its rules. Plan and lead practices.

Communicate with league officials and parents and participate in special league events.

Be able to deal with issues that arise, on and off the field, at all practices and games.

 

HEAD COACH POSTIONS

 

Lakewood Pop Warner is now accepting head coaching applications, in all divisions, for experienced, enthusiastic, and committed coaches looking to volunteer their time to our football program.

 

Interviews are conducted starting in November (year prior) and continue until all positions are filled (usually February).

 

COMMITMENT

Board Meetings: Once a month (twice starting in May)

Football registrations: February - July

Pre-season parent meetings: June

Regular Season: August - October

Post-Season (Jr. Pee Wee division and above only): November & December

 

DIVISIONS

Flag: 5 & 6 yrs (No Weight Restrictions)

Jr. Mitey Mite: 7-8yrs (45-90lbs)

Mitey Mite: 7-8yrs (45-90lbs), 9yrs (45-70lbs)

Jr. Pee Wee: 8-10 (60-105lbs), 11yrs (60-85lbs)

Pee Wee: 9-11 (75-120lbs), 12yrs (75-100lbs)

Jr. Midget: 10-12 (85-135lbs), 13yrs (85-115lbs)

Midget: 11-14yrs (105-160lbs), 15yrs (105-140lbs)

HEAD COACH CERTIFICATION
 

Pop Warner requieres ALL Pop Warner Head Coaches to be Certified every three year through USA Football. Although all coaching staff is welcome to take this course, it is only MANDATORY for HEAD COACHES. Please click on the online coaches course at (Online Certification Site) and pass the Level 1 Certified Coaching Education Program (minimum requirement). No Head Coach will be allowed to take the practice or game field until they get certified.
