POP WARNER CHEER HISTORY

Cheerleading was officially recognized in the 1970's, but has been a part of the Pop Warner program for several decades. The first ever National Cheerleading competition was held in DeKalb County, GA. Today, 160,000 children are participating in cheerleading and dance around the United States.

Participation in the Pop Warner Spirit Program provides kids an opportunity to perform in an organized, supervised, safety-oriented environment. Pop Warner programs emphasize fun for all and encourage the development of qualities important long after Pop Warner days are gone.

The Spirit Program is growing in numbers each year due to the popularity of the sport. In an effort to keep pace with the many new changes in the cheer & dance industry, there are a few basic rules that are unique to Pop Warner Spirit Squads. For a complete list of Pop Warner guidelines, please visit the Pop Warner website.

LAKEWOOD CHEER

Our cheer squads travel with their football team and perform in front of our fans during each game. In addition to cheering our teams on as they play against opponents from our conference, our cheer squads are involved in competitive cheer competitions and other events.

Cheer squad sizes are limited and are filled on a first come, first serve basis. We do not hold tryouts. To guarantee a place on a squad we strongly suggest signing up early. Our cheerleading squads are an essential part of our football program. Lakewood Pop Warner provides and offers the best learning experience a youth will have until the high school level. All girls and boys are welcome.

Our Program Offers...

-Introduction to the sport of cheerleading.

-Make new and lasting friendships

-Improve coordination and get exercise

-Builds self confidence and self esteem

-Promotes teamwork and sportsmanship

-Cheer at real football games

-Go to JAMZ cheer camp

-Learn cheers and dance routines and how to stunt

-Go to cheer competition and earn medals and trophies

-Meet high school cheerleaders

-Have lots of fun and much, much more

Lakewood Pop Warner is proud to introduce Anthony Luna as our League Cheer Director. Anthony is delighted and excited to be your Cheer Director for the third consecutive season.

He strongly believes, together with the board, how important it is to set goals and expectations for our squads. Organization and teamwork will go a long way. Co-operation from parents is always appreciated as we all are volunteers after all.
